Farmer’s Market Fall

Let’s be honest.  It was Labor Day.  Then I blinked.  Then it was nearly Halloween.

Well, Hellooooo Fall!

For the last ten years or so I have spent my autumns in places and climates where the leaves don’t change color.  And this is a true shame, because that is one of Mother Nature’s many wild spectacles.  The beauty of driving through Upstate New York in late October is enough inspiration to make you want to run off and become a painter.  The reds, oranges, and yellows look like fire and take your breath away.  The crisp air smells like leaves and baking spices.

Fall is really a magical time.

But in Florida, and now in California, we make our own kind of fall.  The weather doesn’t really change.  And the leaves certainly don’t change.  But people drink pumpkin flavored coffee.  We start to bring a jacket with us (well, maybe) if we will be out past sundown.  We bring back out the boots and retire the sandals for a few months – even though its still warm enough that we really could still wear them.

All I have to say is thank goodness Brad and I go to the Farmer’s Market every week, or I’d be sitting here on this 82 degree afternoon thinking it was still July.

I may just have to make another batch of my Pumpkin Spice Rum this afternoon…
