Christmas Sweets and Treats

Last night for dinner I had three cookies and a glass of red wine.

Merry Christmas!

I also swore to my neighbor this morning that on January 2nd I would start caring about my health again.  Until then, it is just too much to think about between the endless work shifts and the holiday celebrating.

And then this morning, packages from the east coast arrived!!  This is exciting because underneath of our tree is packed full of presents from people we love back home.  PLUS I have a whole tin full of my Dad’s famous chocolate chip cookies.

So cookies again for dinner it is.

I also just spent three full days last week baking and candy making and eating enough sugar to keep a three year old up for days.  Because, as I keep saying, “Tis the season!”  So, if you’re not sick of homemade goodies yet, here are some of my favorite sweets and treats of the holidays.

Smitten Kitchen’s Apple Cider Caramels.  To. Die. For.

Ok, I didn’t make these… But Sprinkle’s eggnog cupcakes, and ginger lemon cupcakes were out of this world.

There should be more Cupcake ATMs in this world.  It’d be a happier place.  Just sayin.

Mmm… Homemade Peppermint Bark

I love this super simple Salty Chocolate Almond Bark recipe from Southern Living.  Southerns know their rich sweets.  And the swirls are just so pretty.

Again, Smitten Kitchen.  I adore her.  And need her cookbook.  Her Salted Chocolate Caramels are delish.

There may be some of these on their way to you, but if not, try out the recipes in the links.  There’s really no better time for a sugar overdose than Christmas. 🙂

Merry Christmas Eve Eve!!

xoxo
